He will probably be an Expert next year. slipping into second in the blanket race for top placing only to lose itlo Gardner on lap 10. Gardner opened a very sligh t lead tha t bene fi ted from the Armour-Poovey duel increasing in the closing laps. Field slipped to fifth but remained close enougb to keep the Harley riders honest. Scott Brelsford picked. up pole position for the first heat by setting fast Junior time. The heat was a three way race for firs.t with Scott ahead where it counted. Jim Christiano (BSA) and Jim Crenshaw (Nor) provided the excitement riding side by side down the back chute swapping places threl' and four times a lap in one area. Brelsford finally pulled away in the closing laps, but the two Jims kept at it to the finish with Christiano over Crenshaw and Triumph mounted Steve Delgarno filling out the lOp four. lIeat two was a hard fought battle between Steve Gardner (II-D) and Ted Poovey (I-I-D) for the entire ten laps. Poovey gOI the lead off the line and 'managed to hang on until the back straigh I on lap two when Gardner got alongside and wenl into turn three first. Poovey continued to hound Gardner .Wow, a wheelie. but seemed to run ouL of steam on the back stretch. Del Armour (I I-D) and Billy Field (Nor) decided to have a race of their own in heat three leaving the resl of the field way behind as they carried their duel side by side on the straigh ts and through the turns with Armour taking the low groove to Field's high Ijne.
