Nothing new? Hogwash. Marty Tripes, sleepless since Thursday night. because of a bad ear infection, just barely nipped hot-shot Greg Robertson in the 250 Expert go. Greg looked exceptionally hOL all afternoon and seemed destined to upset the highly touted 16-year-old Tripes when he held him off from beginning to end of the first 20-minute moto. Tripes, who started off third and battled most of the way against Rex Staten, tried everything he knew to slip by. Gregjust wouldn't shut off and picked up the win. Round two came and again Greg got the jump to the top of the hill. It seemed like the beginning of a repeat whe~Tripes said u 0 aay!",jammed it into high gear and_propelled his Yamaha by Greg's CZ. He held it and won overall based on his final moto finish ahead of Greg, who took second. Ron DeSoto picked up two fourths to take third overall. That third was just a bit of a tranquilizer for Ron, who seemed to be high up in the running for the top 500 Expert cash when he and Rich Thorwaldson tangled. Ron got his righ t foot stuck between Rich's Suzuki's rear shock and wheel and the pair-lost quite a few laps getting undone. Meanwhile, Brad Lackey spurted by early leader Bryar Holcomb and rolled away to the first of two wins. Holcomb, second in the first moLo, lost his bid for the overal runner-up spot when he fell to a fifth in round two. D. Helleck, came back from a fourth to take second and squeeze underneath Bryar at the tally. Chuck Bower (Pen) had only a few problems in winning both legs of the 125 Ex class. Rob Norgaard (Suz) gave first mota hassles, but dropped to third overall after his sixth in the final.
