Dear AMXT followers, Under a Mediterranean sun Bryan Kenney dominated the nine nation contingent two motos out of three for an overall win in Lavaur, France. With the Star Spangled Banner for background music, Kenney collected the winner's wreath, cup and two-foot bottle of champagne (one up on DiffBrake) on the awards po?ium. Chris Horsfield stood on one side in the number two spot with J. Jansson, Sweden on the other. On a natural terrain track that includes several spectacular blind drop-offs, Kendey spent the first mota battling up .from a bad start. Moving into futh place, he was surprised as Wiertz and Horsfield got the better of him over a jump. With little or no inspiration left, he finished the mota in seventh place, Dave Nicoll's first place looking a long. way away. Second place went to Jykri Storm, the Finn that snatched Bryan's GP points in the last two Grands Prix. With the starting gate dialed in, Kenny was second into the corner the second mota behind Jansson. By the third lap an American was in the lead, and all 17,000 spectators were urging him on. With the Maico in top tune all he had to do was stretch out his lead while Jansson fought to keep off Horsfield in second and third places. Leif-Ake Olsson, Sweden,. and Dave AMXT captain Bryan Kenney on his way to a first overall in an internattona France. ta e er Nicoll rounded out the top five. As the starting gate fell on the third mota, Andy Lee and Nicoll were several tire lengths in front of Ke""ney. A misfrre of Lee's BSA was all the time it . took for the AMXT captain to move up to second place. Finally, during the fifth lap, Bryan broke into the lead as Nicoll's rear tire packed up. Horsfield, now in second place, challenged Kenney' for a lap or· two until he slowed around a awkward corner. Another clean win was pocketed by our team! Maico and rider crossed the finish line with a good strong lead. Chris Horsfield followed in second place, Jansson and Wiertz behind. The awards ceremony was typically European in style: the laurel wreath, week's supply of champagne, and silver cup all presented by two sexy young trophy girls from the area. I'm going to do my best to help Bryan finish off his two-and-a-half gallon bottle as well as seeing to it that he's on another winner's podium soon. Hot Shoe, August 2, 1972 OVERALL RESULTS Lavaur.
