New Stuff & ~hih:g~ for Cycles lJl ;: w Z W ..J U > U PAD IT Is your riding pleasure destroyed because you constantly worry about banging your teeth (a la Jody Nicholas) on the cross-brace on your cross-braced MX bars? Do you keep the throttle off because you fear catching your foot under the brace if you endo? Is your front end too light? Well, just in the nick of time CC Products, Box 96, Dept. FOAM, Rialto, Calif. 92376, has come up with what they term "the cheapest form of insurance you can buy." This desirable little number pads that cross-brace and thereby saves your race face. It is covered with "durable heavy grain black vinyl with snaps." The innards are cushioned foam rubber." All this security for a mere $4.45 plus five percent tax to Californians. Of course, you could buy a set of bars without a crossbrace. I4 BANG THE OLD GAS TANK TRICKA bike just isn't trick without a trick gas tank. It is difficult to find a trick tank for a Kawasaki F -8 or F-9. Don't despair, green machine owners, there is an answer (and a gas tank, too). This heavy duty fiberglass tank is made by Hannemann who is noted for Bultaco desert tanks. It weighs only four pounds, but it still doubled layered for the strength necessary for frequent trips to the deck. It is narrow (no tank is lrick without being narrow). It features a transparent strip down each side for checking fuel level, holds 2.8 gallons, and goes on without bolts or nuts or nuthin. Call 213/3924131, or ·run into California Kawasaki, 3009 Lincoln Blvd., Dept. AL, Santa Monica, California 90405; with 552.90 in your mitt and emerge with the tank and cap. Then sell your old one. Before your case goes bang when the chain breaks and shatters it, maybe you should buy a case protector for your 125cc DKW, Sachs, Penton, MCB, or Monarch. Early or late style engines can be accommodated for 53.95. Dealers can write Hercules Distributing, 9827 Mason Ave., Chatsworth, California 91311 or call 213/882-8272, and the men on the street can see their dealers. WANT TO BLOW OFF COOK NEILSON? If your Hawg won't dust off Kawasaki 750s as easily as you think it should, you obviously need more cubes. After all there is no substitute for cubic inches, except maybe horsepower. S & S Cycle Equipment makes fast stuff of all kinds for 'Glides and Sportsters. Pictured is their stroker kit which gives 88 cubies and still uses the-stock piston rings. Tell your mailman to ask abou t their stuff when he passes by Box 215, Viola, Wisconsin 54664. WHAT? CAN'T HEAR YOU· This is something that you do need. You've heard all the statistics about how much hearing is lost by riders exposed to load exhausts. It .is especially true of participan ts at unsilenced even ts. The more you hear now, the less you hear later. Ear plugs are the best answer. You can even wear them under a helmet. The "Sonic Ear-Valv" has several nice features. In effect, it is a valve. It limits the high decibel sounds that hurt, but allows in the lower frequency noises like speech. Much like the human ear drum. At $4.95 a set it is considerably cheaper than a new auditory system. Sigma Engineering Co., 11320 Burbank Blvd., North Hollywood, California 91601, even sells them with a money back guarantee. Can't beat it with a factory ride. SHIFTLESS? If your Sachs, DKW, or Penton isn't shifty enough for you, a KOBA shift kit wiII help. A spring loaded selector rod comple tes the shift if the selector key and gear are misaligned. This means that you don't have to concentrate on your shifts (or, alternatively, your engine repair bills) quite so much. The manufacturer says that "although the kit is not difficult to install, it does take mechanical ability to adjust it correctly." Send $41.50 to 330Y. West Gardena Blvd., Gardena, Calif. 90248 immediately. You can also call 213/327-0310. Tell them Baz doesn't send you. IF YOUR POWERBAND AIN'T BROAD WHERE A BROAD POWERBAND SHOULD BE BROAD UNDER COVER While we are on the subject of Kawasakis, we will shoot this one at you. Kawasaki rotary valve engines frequently suffer from a lack of air at high RPM. The reason is that the carb mouth comes out very close to the case and air can't get around to give it sufficient breath at wide throttle openings. The other problem one may encounter is adapting pumper carbs to the existing enclosure. A bigger .case will solve either of these problems. For Kawasaki 100, 125E, and 175E; Yamaha Mini-Enduros, and Suzuki 90's, it comes from MISI, 2409 East Apache, Tulsa, Oklahoma· 7411 O. The Suzuki model is $9.95 and the others are $12.95. MA-KNOW-COCK Is your old frame on your street bike or road racer beginning to look ratty? The paint is beginning to chip and the welds (sloppy at best) are beginning to stand out. A Monocoque frame from CRDC might be just what that old turkey needs to take on a new look. In addition you could save 75 pounds and throwaway the gas tank and other unnecessary items. The frame is the tank.. You may also gain a big handling improvemen t in the bargain. You get a swing arm, too... For only 5398 total. They have them for most two-strokes and many four-strokes. I t is bound to look different. Write: Box 35 I, Brisbane, California 94005. • z'3r.( • J~ J ,!I~:'c""'fl For a mere $49.95 you can save yourself from becoming stuck with the same old c":,,buretors that everyone else uses. Not only that but It IS trIck, too. The Kendick EXP carb will work on both two- and four-stroke engines and needs no pulse line to activate its diaphragm. It is available in three sizes (29 mm, 33mm, and 40 mm) so that owners of thre~ cylind~r machines can use all three at once. One cybnder wiII be best at low range, one at medium, and one wil~ be best at full throttle. However, If you are less darmg, they say the EXP (Something like LSP, we think.) will broaden your powerband. The model shown fits the DT-2 Yamaha (Or DT-2s of other makes, too, probably.) and they have adaptor kits f,?r ~ost popular mo'sickles including reed valve apphcatJo.ns. Prices start at $49.95 and end at Kendlck Egnineering, 9520 DeSoto (good name for a street), Chatsworth, California 91311. HOT DOG! Many motocrossers would benefit greatly fro~ a titanium frame with decen t geometry. The major obstacle is cost. Well, we have discovered an outfit that gives them away absolutely free. They don't even charge for shipping. The distributor, Sandy, does require that the receiver be deservmg however. To see if you qualify, write S. Claus, X-mas Products Ltd., Dept.
