Roosevelt Raceway, Long Island, July 29, 1972. Beating the bigger bikes on his
Yamaha XS2 Racer, Chuck Palmgren tore up the track to win the Half-Mile
National Championship and the coveted Yamaha Gold Cup at Roosevelt
Raceway.
The event represented the only major half-mile race held in the East in 1972,
and the competition was tough: factory teams from Yamaha, BSA, Triumph and
Harley-Davidson, plus individual riders that have won every major national
motorcycle race in America for the past five years. But when it was all over,
Yamaha had won on the fastest half-mile oval track in America.
If you want to be a winner, ride a winner. See the bikes with the race-winning
heritage at your Yamaha dealer.
The most repeated name on the victory roster.
The great machines for '72
