Beating the bigger bikes on his Yamaha XS2 Racer, Chuck Palmgren tore up the track to win the Half-Mile National Championship and the coveted Yamaha Gold Cup at Roosevelt Raceway. The event represented the only major half-mile race held in the East in 1972, and the competition was tough: factory teams from Yamaha, BSA, Triumph and Harley-Davidson, plus individual riders that have won every major national motorcycle race in America for the past five years.
