JUST PLAIN OL' MOJO
Many thanks for the .plug from Papa
Wealey. But, for the record, the group is
called simply "The Mojo Co."
And I have been leader of the group
since its formation. Since Joe Parkhurst
owns everything else in Southern
California, please don't award him my
band, too.
Our schedule calls for Mondays and
Tuesdays at the Refried Bean, rather
than "most nigh ts. ,.. Honest, we do
work on "Cycle World" at least part of
the week!
The latest version of the band
includes myself on
Fender
piano/Hammond organ, Steve Simmons
(a former CW mailboy) on lead guitar,
Joe ("Slick") Parkhurst on drums, and
Win Muldrow (a brillian t photographer
of the Baja and Calif. bugb'Y 'racing
scenel on conga drums.
We sincerely hope you'll corne and
sec us. The bean is on PClf, where the
Orphanage used to be, in Labena

BURTONS' NIGHT
LOW BLOW
Alrigh L I saw that low blow in your
Laguna Seca report about the sidecars.
PUlling oil and rubber on tne track,
really now. Why should a sidecar put
any more oil on the track .than a solo
bike? They usc the same engines. And
rubber on the track, I suppose the
thousands of sports cars that have run
there have not left rubber on the track.
And by the way, how corne no report
on the Sidecar event. The most sidecars
ever in the States at a race, the crowd
loves it, and then only a couple of lines
on how we dirtied iI,e track. I'd say
that's getting the clam where it hurts.

YAMAHA NOT HUSKY.
After reading about the Burtons'
problem in Maureen's column, I began
to remember all the great times I had at
their track. I had some of my finest
rides on that track, of course this was
always accomplished by the excel len t
condition they kept the track in.
Thinking about those days really gets
the old nostalgia going. Just be sure and
let me know what the date will be and 1
will be there.

I have just finished reading Bill
Spencer's column in July 25 issue. I got
the impression that there are more
riders than there arc racing facilities to
handle them throughout most of the
state; whether it be MX or scrambles.
As of late. however, I'm n!'lt Sure

This letter is in regard to your article
about the Cactus Cats' and Master
Links' "Dual in the Sun". fn paragraph
two of that article you said that Torn
Brooks finished first. which was righ t.
But then you stated that he was
followed by Bill Frian t and Gregg
llawks. both mounted on Puchs. This
however was a mistake on your part.
In between these two was a great
rider 'by the name of Chuck Cartledge
(Pen). lie is presently 55 in the District
37 Trailbike standings.
This is only because his bike had
recently been out of comission. He is
back riding now and will probably begin
to bring himself up con tinuaJly in the
standings.
Also in your article, (in paragraph
five) you mentioned that Trail Expert
Don Daily (I-Iod) took two seconds and
Craig Forney (Yam) finished right
behind him both times. But what about
the guy iI,at finished first? In case
you're wOl'ldering who it is, i.t's Chuck's
brother Mike. He took two firsts to
finish first overall in the Trail Am/Ex
class on a Ilodaka.
