Motorcycle Trailers WHITTIER HONDA 14324 E. Whittier Blvd. Whittier, Ca. 90605 Corona TT - - - - - - - By Elaine Jones CORONA, CAL., July 26, 1972 - John Allison, one of the winningest riders at Corona, came face to face with Doug Mason, one of the winningest riders at Perris, and the result was some far-out riding in the 250 Expert class. They started the evening off with a photo fmish and considering it was Doug's first time on the course that ain't too bad. Round two saw John pull away, especially through the two 180 degree turns where Doug's gearing proved his downfall. He could pull John down the straight, but by the time he got his bike peaked out it was too late. The next time these two meet and Doug has the correct gearing ought to be something else. Ron Rinsen picked up third. John collected some more first place gold in the Amateur/Expert Open class. It was his-first time out in the big bike class but it didn't seem to make much difference. It was a big class with Jots of traffic so it scattered the places around with John the only one able to stay on top. Mike Posey put together enough for second and Grant Murray Jr. third. Tad Willis and Jim Wright went round and round in the 250 Amateur go and Jim almost lost the whole ball of wax in the second moto when he had a late start off the line. Even though he finished sixth it was still enough to take the fltst over Tad and Doug Hannon. Jerry Greer who started off great went steadily dowIihill and did a super unload down the front straightaway that put him on the also-ran list for the rest of the evening. He did have the fastest time of the evening which should mean something. Due to the lack of riders of an Amateur/Expert rating the 100/125cc-175/20Occ classes ran with the 175-200cc riders handicapped. Wayne Whisenant, better known as Whiz outran them all on his screamin' Kawasaki. Clearly having the advantage in the tight stuff he had too much of a lead to be caught. Jim Wright had the only big bike that made the top three as he squeaked in for second. Terry Griner, a popular rider from El Toro won the 125 Novice Division in a close contest with Larry LeVoff. Both riders were tied going into the final moto but Larry got hung up in traffic "'1d could finish no better than third which put him second overall. It looks like Steve Bales has kissed the .1 OOcc class goodbye and said hello to the 175-200cc Novice winner's circle. Steve was never really challenged and left the dueling to those behind him. Second place Gary White got off to a slow start but steadily improved but not in time '\0 get Steve. Don't forget the Juvenile Hall TT Benefit, Wednesday, August 9th. Things to sweeten the pot have been donated. J ,) I DiffBrake ALLIED CUSTOM CYCLES (703) 358-0708 Complete stock of parIs and accessories $21.95 RICHMOND, VA.
