In an extraordinary display of durability, Yamaha's history-making machines won' 5 out of 6 Inter-AMA International Motocross Series races to capture the 1972 Championship! For the first tim"e ever, an American racing team beat the Europeans, in. race after race all across the country. Following the 6th and final race at Lexington, Ohio, Yamaha's 1972 Inter-AMA 250 MX race record told an amazing overall story: Gary Jones 1st Place Overall Winner (Yamaha Factory Team R,ider) Torsten Hal~rman 2nd Place (Yamaha Factory Team Rider) Jimmy Weinert 5th Place (Yamaha Factory Team Rider) Hacken Anderson 6th Place (Yamaha Factory Team Rider) Marty Tripes 8th Place (Yamaha Factory Team Rider) Arne Lindfors 10th Place (Yamaha Factory Team Rider) Yamaha awarded The Manufacturers Cup. For winning the highest number of points, Yamaha was awarded The Manufacturers ~up. This trophy is testament to Yamaha's victories in all Inter-AMA Series races, including the 6th race in which Yamaha won 4 of the top 6 places, including Gary Jones in 3rd place overall.
