slipped by Pierce into second spot after
a few laps. Then DueHamel moved his
350 Kawasaki single into third and
moved up on Greene who was closing in
on Fisher. Yvon tucked in hehind
Greene looking for a place to pass.
In tum three of lap nine Yvon made
his move swallowing hoth of them in
one breath. The Fearless Frog held it,
even stretched it out a bit for two laps,
but then the sun came out, and Fisher's
Yamaha
seemed
to
find
some
encouragement, and that apparently
inspired Fisher.
Down the hill from turn six he came,
going very quickly through the closing
radius tum seven, and then picking a
graceful sweeping line through tum
eigh t, a line which carried him pas t
Yvon and back in to the lead. Then,
smoothly but fiercely, Gary proceeded
to stretch it out.
About this time, Yvon's bike soured
just a hair, slowing him almost
impercep tibley
on
the
straigh ts.
Whether or not he could have caugh t
the Flying Fish anyway is hard to tell.
But Gary himself was riding under a
handicap. One eye had been giving him
trouble in the last week and the doctor
hadn't had time to correct it. So Gary
was riding with very litle vision in one
eye.
The Kawasaki of Gary Nixon soured
also and fmally quit.
Greene was still running third ahead
of Carruthers and Pierce who were
havinl':. their usual dice. Then Mike Lane
Fisher leads Greene, DuHamel, Carruthers. and Pierce through "the corkscrew". Fisher won the combined.
