THE LATEST LOWDOWN ON LAGUNASECA If you are one of the many fine folks traveling up to see the Kawasaki Superbike International National road race this weekend the following information may be quite handy. THE SCHEDULE Friday, 21 july: Practice from 10 am to 5 pm. Saturday, 22 july: Practice from 8 to 9:30 am. Heats for Novice & Combined Lightweight classes, 10'30 to noon. NOVICE 50 MILER at 1 pm. JUNIOR-EXPERT COMBINED LIGHTWEIGHT 50 MILER at 3 pm. Sunday, 23july: Practice 8 to 10 am. Expert and junior heats until noon. JUNIOR 50 MILER at 1 pm. Sidecar demonstration race at 2 pm. 125 MILE EXPERT NATIONAL at 3 pm. WHERE TO STAY The passenger can act as a brake, if necessary. The Monterey Chamber of Commerce has a hot-line for reservations. Call (408) 375-2252 and ask for the reservations supervisor. Places to stay are tight. If there are any hotel or motel rooms available she will know abou t them. If you would "like to camp the place that is nearest to the track is the Laguna Seca Ranch Campground. The fee is $3 per nigh t and reservations may be made by calling (408) 372-0325. Other campgrounds and their telephone numbers are listed below. Big Sur area: 667-2422, 667-2403, 667-2414,667-2157,667-2322. Watsonville: 722-0551. Carmel Valley: 659-2768,624-9329, 624-1617. Monterey: 372-8121. (All numbers are 408 area code.) IF YOU CAN'T GO If you can't gel to Monterey you can hear the race on the Motor Racing Network which carried Daytona and other AMA events. LASl MINUTE NOTES Rick Hutchins motors down the back section of the course. Art Baumann may ride a Kawasaki at Laguna Seca. Thai is, if Suzuki will release him to do so. It is unresolved at last report. ,There was a press party there on Wednesday and Baumann went around with a bunch of other go fast types. The real-life press people there were somewhat impressed by it all especially those who went for a spin with Reg Pridmore in his Norton sidehack. He wasn't sandbagging too much, e~ther.
