M N TTMC MAKES IT FAST AND TACKY By Ed Drechsler ADELANTO, CAL., July 15, 1972 - The Santa Ana wind should have wrecked the track, but between Don England running the water tank for more than 15 hours non-stop and a Steve Scott only took second in the 250 class but last week he won the Pikes Peak Hillclimb. Read how in next week's issue. DiffBrake _.. . . . .-...... Loui s N complete resurfacing job, the heavyweigh ts found one of the neatest courses ever. It w";'smooth and fast. There was a dust problem during the Ugh tweigh t competition, and a bit too much water on turn six caused a rash of Novice get-offs, but it was a good track. Don "T-Bone" Grigsby fought his way to the lead of the 125 Am/Ex class and won it. In winning it, he beat Scott Smith. It must be said in defense of Scot, however, that he was moun ted on '4T-Bone's" sister's stock Yamaha. At one point during the Main, Scot had managed to ride into fourth place (with everyone else falling off and such). He fourth rapidly disintegrated into last as he developed a flat tire. "T-Bone" is an Amateur. Riding his first points race after his crash was Dennis Briggs. He trounced the 100 Amateurs on one of Windy Briggs' auper-tuned Kawasakis and returned to do the same to the 250 Amateurs. Windy finally did the right trick on the 250 Kawa engine (reportedly assembled from junked and scrapped parts) as it did nothing but scream. Dennis should be on his way to Expert by now. In John Sandonna's first ride as an Open Amateur, he won his qualifying heat, but only managed to finish second in the MaID. Pie Plater Grant Murry won it with Don Bevans third. It has reached a point where the promoting club should just mail Charlie Soderstrom's 200 Expert trophy to him. He won it again with ease. He also brought his 250 "Ascot" Bultaco to capture a win in the hotly contested 250 Expert class. Dan White, fast brother of Tom White, rode against the Open Experts on a sano Yamaha and took fourth. John Sprague blasted -Out for the win with Brian McMillan second and Richard Marquis third. Never seen so many Trackmaster and Red Line frames as in the Open class. Kirk Redding rode from a second row start he was upset with to the 500 Expert win. Earl Roloff and Scot Smith didn't make it easy for him. JQW.I... ~_ ~~M 1 7219 Westminster Ave.. Westminster. Ca.
