Mike Renslow trailed Hank Scott for muc:f1 ~f tht;Novice Main until he got his openi~g and wen~ on to will. the pack smashed its way in to' turn one. Chuck Palmgren tucked in second. Down the back chute they headed and here came Beauchamp, who got by Ch uck as they headed in to notorious tum three. Out they came with Rice still the lead, Beauchamp second, in Palmgren third. Then it was Brelsford, Roberts, Romero, Sehl, Rayborn Gillespie and Scott. Suddenly, Beauchamp got his opening and out-powered Rice down the back straigh t to take over the lead on lap two; Brelsford stuffed Palmgren back to fourth on lap three while Rayborn and Gillespie began to move. Lap after lap, it was Beauchamp in the lead, looking stronger with each ensuing tour. Rice wasn't abou t to be shaken off but Brelsford's machine was running rich and spou ting a fine tune when it moved into second on lap five. Way back in ninth was rookie Gary Scott, trying to catch Gillespie. With Mark in second and Roberts and Romero running 5-6, Gary's second ,,(PleilS tuTn to pg. 41)
