In the last tum of lap two, McCaulley went to the high groove to move around Comer and close up on Roger:s, then in the second tum of lap three Bachant got the drive on Comer to grab third. McCaulley, right behind, had no place to go but righ t into the fallen Rogers and both were down. This put Bachant into second, followed by Comer and Conklin, the order they held to the checkered. Mark Minter jumped right inLo the lead of ·the 100 Novice-Division I, ahead of Paul Martinez, Randy Talley, Phil WaLers and Alan Hardin.
