ESO President of the CRC, Jerry McNeal, and Director of Racing, Jack Barbacovi never seem to have a weekend to spend at home with their families but they have gotten around that sticky situation by having their wives and kids go with them and help out. They also handle complaints from irate racers wjlO feel they weren't scored properly. One of the CRC's most recent efforts at providing the family with an enjoyable day of motorcycling was an Enduro/Trailride held up at the Running Springs Motorcycle Recreation Park. The trail started off on the existing motocross co~rset then wound through the river bed and came straigh t into a large mud hole. After putting your foot down, you discover that the foot is now bonded to the ground and doesn't seem to be coming au t. Down by the creek, several riders were taking it easy with their boots off' and feet in the cool mountain water. This was a family outing and not everyone was out for a trophy, just to have a good time. Up and down several dusty fire trails , and you come to the first of the special skills sections: a hill climb. I sat there for a while and watched as Oldtimers, young kids and even some ladies came out to try it. This was no Matterhorn but it was a good test of basic hillclirnb skills. Other special events were: a timed slalom race between barrels: a timed shortened motocross; a simple little trials section, scored on a feet up engine running, through the cones basis; a long jump contest off of a drop away on the motocross track; and a log riding contest. Everybody had a fantastic time even though the enduro section might have been a little difficult for the first time-outer. The high score was turned in J by one of those under 16 kids in the 250 Novice class, Bernard chreiher. Another effort which should be noted WllS by James McConnell, riding two bikes and finishing first in the 125 Beg. and second'in the 250 Beg. The CRC has been holding regular motocross at Running Springs every Saturday. The motocross and the Sunday events (which are not always motocross) make a full calendar for such a young club. This has its advantages though, as they can immediately correct any problems. Running Springs Park is an ideal place for the CRC's events as it affords camping facilities for the entrants. If you are a family that enjoys riding motorcycles and camping or are interested in racing and don't especially want to get out there with the established hotshoes just yet, then CRC is your best bet.
