Urban, Smith Win Carlsbad By Eric Raits CARLSBAD, CAL., Nov. 28, 1971 Carlsbad's Pied Piper, Bill Urban, again won a pair of Expert classes Sunday at the Southern California motocross facility. Riding in spite of painful nether regions, Urban beat off the challenges of Marty Tripes in the 250 class and Jim Beauchamp and Chuck Bower in the 125's. Tripes got rotten starts and had to play catch-up all day. Gaylon Mosier and new Expert Doug Sherman had periods of inspirational riding but fell victims to bad luck at one time or another. Dave Smith beat Mark Noh: in the 500 class. Nohr scattered a clutch hub in the first moto, knocking a chunk of metal out of his transmission case. As the oil leaked out, Nohr's transmission growled and groaned but stayed together. He ptached the hole with tape and silicone sealer but could only beat Smith once out of three motos. Smith and Urban are pairing up to tour the United States next summer, hopefully to hit the Inter-Am trail. Anyone interested in partially sponsoring the tour is invited to contact Smith or Urban.
