AJS' Eas'w••d Conduc's M"01 Sch••,s in S.Ca' By Evan Mower MOORPARK, CAL~ Oct. 30, 1971 Brilish motocross star Vic Eastwood held a free motocross school Saturday for more than 60 riders at Bay Mare Motorcycle Park. A.C.E. and the management of Bay Mare donated insurance and the use of the track for th e school, sponsored by Norton-Villiers. Eastwood, now employed by AJS as a development engineer, is in the United States 10 enter West Coast Trans-AMA events as well as smaller events around the country to find out just what the bikes go through when purchased by an average motorcyclist. He rides prototype machines in the events, incorporating design changes as he travels. Alternating between discussion and riding, Eastwood was able to evaluate the riders problems and offer suggestions to eliminate them. The class also gave riders a chance to ride with Vic and observe hos he handles the course. The next free school is scheduled for Saddleback Park the weekend. looks like a very worthwhile event to attend, and you can't beat the price. $29.95 ~ w z W ~ U > U - Fullerton Flash. [rolll page 2/) (Co Into the handicap heats, Autrey and Larry Shaw were the only Americans to win their heats as Briggs and Mauger won the other two. All who attended the races will agree that Mauger is a champion because he rides like a champion and he goes like a champion as he peeled off win after win as the evening progressed. He won each of his heats, and did the same in each of his semis and then the Scratch Main. Little Les Chankey made his mark on this half-mile track tonight as he seemed to want to make up for losing out in the scratch races with a fourth in his heat by coming back to take the. win in his Handicap heat, a win in his semi and finishing up a fine evening's ride with a win in the Main Event. With some special runs for the one-lap record at Ascot, the best time was turned in by Barry Briggs who turned it in 24 seconds £lat, which is a record for speedway bikes, but not quite fast enough to beal the track record set by a 750cc machine.
