LOCKHART (Colli ·d. from page 28) pass, o:verly frenetic starts, and much molar·gnashing by those less swift off the line. The condition of what track there was was excellent this Sunday due to a heavy rain the previous night, but more than a few raised clenched fists upwards as they scurried to shelter at 4 a.m. sleeping bags trailing behind. After everyone enjoyed a brief shower during the midst of practice, a great swarm of IOOcc Novices blasted off the line to be compacted between a giant tree, and an equally giant gully eight feet away. Riding two heats, Anthony Whitt (Suz) triumphed, chased by Dana Chamness (Mon). The 125 Expert observers watch Steve Stackahle run his usual first heat lead-cbanging with Kent Howerton, both on Yamahas. Kent quickly tired of clinging to his stock·suspensioned bike, though, and slowed to give Steve three quick wins for a first overall. Frank Hadeleu filled the class with Yamaha wins, getting a consistent second, while wore·out Kent accepted third. Jack Hicks (CZ), John Kasson (CZ), Allen.Bigley (CZ), and Bob Graham did lots of mudslinging as the three CZs finished in the above order. Graham was unable to finish the second heat although he tried mightily gn a flat rear tire which eventually pitched him right back to mother earth. John Kasson surprised everyone by enjoining Hicks in a serious battle for fust, but the will of the boy wonder prevailed as John grumped home second. Allen Bigley rode hard to a third. Chances gone for a win in the 250's, Bob Graham fired up his big AJS to pursue and capture a first in the Open, hampered only by another flat in the second heat, this time on the front. Although Bill Kasson (CZ-mounted and brother of John) led Graham several laps, his excessive exuberance let him down a few times, and he could only manage a sixth. Floyd Dunn (CZ) took second, and Sheldon Otto (Hus) got third. Aside from valid complaints about the skinny track, the only other negative reaction heard concerned the sh ortage of beer towards the fmal. Locbart definitely needs a beer stand.
