HAND AT 4 ACE'S GRAND PRIX 1:> o ~ w Z W ..J U >- U The Four Aces tried a new starting system and"'i"tworked seventh row with sixth row Cannady (Yam) passed 'Smith on the hill. Then came Bill Bogner (CZ), Mike Patrick (Yam), No. 108 (said to be have been IN) an Amateur Ralph Garrett who went out two laps later. Rich began pulling away to a bigger and bigger lead. Cannady went out. Bogner got Smith but Smith waited for the pavement and got Bill on the downhill esses. Patrick stayed a distant fourth. Through the dust came Amateur Leroy Davis (Hus) closing on the Experts lap after lap to finish fifth from No. 126 on the start. Also sneaking up there for seventh was Jack Byers (Rich/BSA). Even on the fast straights the Suzuki of Thorwaldson's and the CZ of Bogner's stayed right with that big Triumph ridden by the "King of the Desert big bores" Gene Smith. Fantastic. With all this taking place there was more. The Novices, Powder Puffs and Hacks thrilled the large turn out of spectators: guys in Levis, grils in - well, they were mostly covered, and I even saw a guy in a suit. George Elliot rode wire to wire winning the 251-Dpen Novice on a Maico. Joyce Soyka won another Powder Puff on that fast Rickman with Patty Domay first 100 and third overall. Keven Hamblin got top 100 Novice. Ray Mitchell pulled off the 250 ovice class out of 131 entries while young Alan Cooke took the 200 Novice on a 125 Yamaha with Andy Kirker first 175 . fair~ly well. on another Yamaha. The hacks ran a shortened course with No. 1 team of Ralph and George Whi('ney winning. There is another Whitney team to watch, that's Tom and Pete on the Greeves. Dads better look out, as soon as these two can reach the ground they'll tear 'em up. The GP was great and everyone had great praise for the 4 Aces. 1 can tell a good club effort by how good and fast you can get the results. Well, we got unofficial ones for all races before the Hacks were off the course. That's great John McCown is still puttin' on the dog! Har-har. Here he and Kookie race with Pat Fonteyn (114).
