He lost one full lap before getting back into action, mainly trying to get his skid-shoe back on. Du~ty Coppage took over the lead after Brelsford fell off and it appeared that the Yamaha veteran had his first win. Then Skip Van Leeuwen moved up to challenge along with four other riders (or four laps but it was Wirth doing the passing and not the Dutchman. With three laps to go and Coppage running in fourth place behind Wirth, Terry Dorsch and John Hateley, he was broadsided by Paul Bostrom. Bostrom fell off but his machine became locked into Dusty's bike 'with the two dragging together off· the track on turn two and Coppage unable to do anything about it. Later Bostrom recovered his mount and finished but Coppage was out of action. Hateley moved by Dorsch for second in the closing laps. Brelsford caught and passed the field but could only climb back to ninth before the finish. Oregpn's Mark Williams was on hand, running fourth in th·e final after a fourth place in the heat races. In the semi, Juniors Tim Thomas and Ron Moore tried to top the Experts but ran into each other with both falling .off, actually allowing Experts Dorsch, Williams and Ralph White to ·go on for the transfers positions that they had held until the crash. Scott Brelsford dominated the Novice class from start to finish for another pair of wins in the 250 class. Brelsford, aboard a Yamaha, had an easy time in the final after Tom White (BuI) pulled off the track, running second after five laps in the final. White had been the winner in the previous Ascot IT. Arizona's Brian LaPlante rode a good eigh t laps to take .second over Steve NicholS with Gary Caldwell running fourth. The next Ascot IT date has not been set but Corona is slated for three straight IT events on Saturday nights. '. (Results-on page 32) BSA Jim Rice . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . • . . . . . . . .
