SOUTH GATE, CAL., Sept. 16,1971 Chilling chain·reaction accidents sent
Mike Clarke and Danny Davis to the
Downey Community Hospital tonight
during the running of the TI and flat
track motorcycle racing program at
Trojan Speedway.
Clarke was reported at tracks.ide to
have suffered a possible broken right
leg, while Davis, a relatively new comeT,
suffered a painful back injury.
Danny Corbett, who at this time
appears to be hitting his peak for the
season, continued on his winning ways
by defeating one of his roughest rivals,
Chris Smith, in thc 250 TI Main Event.
Still favoring a left leg injury, Corbett
once gain figured in a spill earlier in the
program and aggravated th e old injury.
In a second effort he came back to score
a close win over Smith (Mon).
Smith, still smarting from his earlier
defeat, came back on his Montesa
throwing caution to the ·winds and
added another sensational win in the
250 F .T. Main to his string of seasonal
victories.
.
Smith, taking the lead at the starting
line, gave way to Rick Goard (Bul), who
outcharged Smith going into the
backstretch on the first lap, but after
trailing Goade for two laps, regained the
lead as Goade faded to fourth position.
Bob Sanders, meeting the best
challengers
of
the evening, still
dominates the 100, 125 TI, 100, and
125 F.T. Main Events. Sanders' key in
his unbeatable performances at Trojan
appears to be at the starting line: taking
the jump on the field as well as the
starter. Beat Sanders at the jump. and
you have a race for the front spot.
Keith Crecelius, another of the
outstanding roup of Junior riders
showing stubborn determination, scored
a doublc victory by winning over Elbert
Turner (Yam) in the 125 TI Main and
John Doyon (Yam) in the 125 FT Main.
Crecelius, Yamaha mounted, appears to
be improving with each race.
Hard prcssed by Corbett. in the 250
IT trophy dash, Coberly (Bul) was just
too hot to handle as he sped to a
popular
victory
in
a
flawless
perfonnance.
