LABOR DA Y SCRAMBLES DRA WS D-36 CROWD By Steve Young RENO, NEV., Sept. 9, 1971 - The Nevada Trailblazers' IT was quite a success. Four black plates, Jim Foley, John Gennai, Rick Hocking, and Phil Nye came up in pursuit of points, but didn't fare too well. Foley, number one that he is, was able to double as usual, but not without some stiff competition from local riders Charlie Stewart and Barclay Trehal. Trehal gave Foley his ftrst surprise in the 250 Expert Main. Riding for Nevada Cycle Sales, his 250cc BSA stayed right on Foley's rear wheel, and tried to pass but didn't quite have the beans. Late in the race Rick Hocking got by the frustrated Trebal to take second place. Foley's next competition came in the 650cc Expert Main. He won, but only because one of the West's most under-rated riders, Charlie Stewart, didn't have quite enough room to get around. Stewart, in turn, was followed by Trehal on a stock TR6C he had never ridden before. Barclay, though fast, was very c....eful since he was riding his boss's personal "desert sled». The race would have been better had not John Gennai fallen out of contention in the fITst comer. Another fast race was the 200cc Junior Main. Homer Hybarger stayed way out in front to win ahead of John Munson and his brother Jerry Hybarger (Homer's brolher, not John's). In addition to the entertainment of the races, the spectators were delighted with the half-time wheelie contest and with Trebal's speedway exhibition. It is indeed odd to watch an Eso go around a IT track. (Results on page 14) ~ g.
