By Daniel Mata Photos by Ken Benson TIJUANA, B.C., MEX., Sept. 5, 1971 Garry Harris from La Mesa, Calif., got two firsts, the 500cc and the Open class, while Terry Mendel of EI Cajon, Cal., also go two trophies; a first in the 250 class and a second in the Open. Although very few races have a 175 class, the Tijuana M.C. has one. It was Steve Parson (Yam), who took all three motos. Steve is from Imperial Beach, Cal. Sam Wise (Kaw) also of Imperial Beach took second in all three motos. In tne 500cc class Harry (Hus)-took all three matos, although in the third mota Tom Omelina from Bonita, Cal., another Husky, took the lead until the last lap when Garry overtook him. Tom had to settle for a second. In the Open class Terry Mendel (CZ) took the lead but in the second lap Harris overtook Mike Keena (CZ) who was second. Name Your Age Only a few hours after its completion, the Action Fours twin engine gas drag bike turned a 9.96 second elapsed time, with a top speed of 138.57 at Lions Drag Stip in Wilmington. Calif. While unofficial, this elapsed time is .03 seconds lower than the existing N.H.R.A. Top Gas Motorcycle National Record, and is confirmed by Lion's second set of clocks and a back-up run of 10.16 seconds. The "2x4" is powered by two modified Honda CB750 engines with a total displacement of 1570cc's. The machine was built entirely by the Action Fours Racing Team, who are already current N.H.R.A. C/Gas and B/Street national record holders and B/Street national champions. Driver Bill Hahne confidently predicts elapsed times of 9.50 seconds wi"th top speeds approaching 150 miles per hour in the near future.
