SKI-DOO FIRM STOPPED FROM MARKETING MINI-CYCLES United States District Judge, W. Arthur Garrity, Jr., has issued a preliminary injunction in Federal District Coun in Boston, Mass., which prohibits Bombardier, Ltd. of Valcourt, Quebec, Canada from "selling, offering to sell, or otherwise marketing" the mini-cycles which Bombardier is presendy marketing through its dealership network in the United States and Canada and which have been manufactured by Agrati-Garelli, S.P.A., of Monticello, Italy. The court granted the injunction in a suit brought by Engine Specialties, Inc., of Croydon, Pa., distributor of Broncco Mini-Cycles. Bombardier is the manufacturer or'Ski-Doo Snowmobiles, the largest selling snowmobile in the world. It had recendy entered the growing milli-cycle market. Engine Specialties alleged that Bombardier intentionally caused Agrati-Garelli, formerly the manufacturer of Engine Specialties' Broncco Mini-Cycles, to terminate and breach its contract 'with Engine Specialties. Engine Specialties' contract with Agrati-Garelli provided that Agrati-Garelli would manufacture and seU Broncco Mini-Cycles exclusively to Engine Specialties and that Agrati-GareUi would not sell Bron~co Mini-Cycles to anyone else for re-sale m North American for a period of two years after the termination of the contract. The court found that "Since December, 1970, Agrati has supplied Broncco type mini-eycles to Bombardier for distribution in the United States and Canada" in breach of its contract with Engine Specialties. Cerritos Stages fie'd Meet Jr. The City of Cerritos Recreation Department conducted its fITst annual motorcycle time trials and field event finals Aug. 28, at the Cerritos Cycle Park, 20000 Bloomfield Avenue. The contest consisted of three categories of bike sizes, with contestants competing only in their own class. Contestants were judged in four competitive events: --Time Trials - Fastest two laps around the I-Mile Motocross course. --20-Yard' Slow Ride - Slowest time taken from the starting point to the finish line without one's feet touching the ground or going out of the two-foot-wide restraining line. --Wheelie Contest - The longest distance ridden on the back wheel of the bike without touching one's feet to the ground. --75-Yard Run Ride - Fastest time taken to run 75 yards on foot to parked bikes, start the engine, and drive back 75 yards to the starting line. The big surprise was when Mark Blavet riding an almost stock 125 Yamaha cleaned house on the larger 250 bikes. Mark turned in two lap time of 3 min. 51 sec. which was 2 sec. faster than Jim Harris who was mounted on a Ossa Stiletto and is a very good motocross rider in his own righ L Jim's sone Mike, took third place honors in the 250 class on a 125 DKW. The only girl rider was Janice Harris, riding a 50cc Suzuki, who took third 70cc mini class right behind David Barnes and Louis Nefos. The 100cc class had a clean sweep for Honda. That litde 100 HOnda gets with the program. Newton Brady took first followed closely by Dan Kelly and Jim Peterson. The city staff had thejr chance to show orf with RobeR Meyer, the City Park Superintendent,'taking top honors on a 175 Yamaha. Meyer also took the top honors in the wheelie contest and first in the run ride evenl. It was quite a sight to see the city staff heavies (200·250 Ibs.) run that 75 yds. 20 sec. to run down, 4 sec. to ride back and 30 min. to recover from the strain. Roger Jespersen, the Cycle Park Supervisor, took second place in the time trials, slow race and run ride. Keith Nielsen was the big winner in the slow ride with 32 sec. for the 50 ft. event. Tbe Park and Recreation Dept. plan to put on this event again during Christmas vacation. Everyone is invited to participate. Prizes for the event were donated by U.S. Suzuki, Long Beach Honda, Norm Reeves Honda, Artesia Motorcycle, EI Monte Yamaha, Cycle News, Yamaha International, Jenkin's Sport Center, Bellflower Motorcycle, Big Y Battery and Downen's Motorcycle.
