In the Handicap Main Event, Mike Clancey seemed to prove the wisdom of moving him from the second division as he came off the line in the number two spot behind Ruben Benites and then moved up. to pass .him for the lead which he retained to the checkered flag despite a last lap bid by Ric;k Woods, With the addition pf another 10 yards to his handicap, Woods is the first Amcrlcan rider to be saddled with a 70-yard handicap, and while he was able to work his way through the pack to the number two spot. Mike retained the lead with Benites and Jim Gresham in third and fourth. The Scratch Main Event had the same ending as so many previous scratch. mains as Rick Woods turned a bad start into victory by virtue of just plain hard 713 Eitel Strelll Iowa Falli. With Sonny Nutter in the number four slot on the line it would seem to be a Bast-Nutter duel for the lead as Sonny is know for some fabulous ltarts, but this time Woods was right between them and as they got to the inside of the comer. They all three bashed together and for a minute, it seemed like they might all go down. But as they pulled out of it, it was orily S.onny and Rick who tangled enough to spm Sonny and leave Rick in the second place spot. Pouring on the coal, Woods was able to dispatch Bast as Nutter recovered from his spill with the engine running to come back in and fmish in fourth behind Larry Shaw. Nutter pleased his multitude of fans in the team match race as he paired with Bill Cody against Mike Bast and Larry Shaw. With Sonny taking the win for three points, while Bast got second for two, jt was Cody in third for one point which meant that Nutter and Cody won with score of 4-2.
