DISTRICT 31 TT SCRAMBLES ,... Spending the N.ighl With the 'Jackrabbits By David Swift ELSINORE, CAL., Aug. 28, 1971 This was the second nigh t scrambles in the last month held by the Jackrabbits here and it's amazing that they would do it a second time. From 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday morning 240 contestants flied in and out of the tiny pit area, battling dust, noise, pit racers, and dark. Lord knows how many races the 'rabbits cranked off that night, and they did it with co·ordination. There were over two dozen different classes of bikes that must be contested. Some of them were combined; some were run in Matos and others eliminated in heats, a semi, and a main. But, by golly, they did it regardless of the mass confusion generated by the crowds of assorted hangers-on, dipsomaniacs, and bratty kids on minibikes who tend to frequent such even ts of this sort. Jim Brockman. a 16-year-old who drove up from San Diego. gave Dan Hackie a bad time in-the 250 Expert bash. Nearly beating him in an earlier heat, he left the course on the last lap. I n the Main, however, stayed in front. Elsewhere, Dan and his buddie Charlie Soderstrom raised all sorts of fuss in the 200 Expert motos, giving everyone a delightful show.
