The evening started ou t as a crowd pleaser as three of the Handicap Heats were won by GO-yard men with Mike Bast and Sonny Nutter both displaying top form to come from way back to win. It is no easy matter to start that far behind the line and pass five men in five laps that take less than 70 seconds to complete. Sonny had problems in the semi, but came back to win the Handicap Consolation with a roaring crowd behind him as he copped the lead from Larry Moon on the last lap. In the Handicap Main, Mike Bast beat Rick off the GO-yard line, as Harlan Bast (Mike's Uncle) took the lead with Ruben Benites and Guy Waterson leading. In the first lap, Rick got under Mike Bast and proceeded to move up past the other riders with apparent ease as he took the lead with two laps to go and went on to finish as the fans were really getting with it.
