Darrel Dovel and Larry Palmgren were both sidelined with engine failure while leading their prospective races for' the checkered flag. Dovel was leading the second Expert heat by a fair margin ,,:,en his engine blew on the last lap coming for the flag, leaving Palmgren the win. Palmgren led the final event from the start through the eigh th lap when his engine also failed. Seems these riders need a change of luck. David Lawson set the fast qualifying time for the Expert division but still failed to'beat the track record held by Dick Mann of 25.43. Lawson turned the oval in the time of 26.14 as did Freddy Beale. Since Lawson timed first, he was given the fast time and pole position in the first heat. Bad luck was also with Lawson as his machine failed on the second lap of the Expert final. Enough about bad luck. Pat Larry Palmgren led in the early laps at Norton. Kan .. but troubles forced him out before the checkered appeared. Marinacci was well deserving of the win after a bad start left him in fourth around him just before the checkers for position on the frrst lap. He quickly the win. There was a real battle for third recovered and by the second lap was place when three riders crossed the line breathing down Palmgren's neck until together for a decision win. Marcus Palmgren's bike gave up. Pat brought his Johnson placed in third, Phil Darcy, Triumph brand across the lin" for the Beaumont, Texas fourth and Larry checkers ahead of Charles Seale.
