Dorsch was in the lead with Scott full-boring the jump on every lap and nearly landing out in the middle of the Riverside Freeway. One mistake was all Terry made - and it cost him the win. Scott sliced under on tum five with less than four laps to go and was on his way to becoming Corona's first rider to win both on the oval and the IT course. The new track put on one of the best and most exciting shows ever presented CORONA, CAL., Aug. 21, 1971 Corona has added a IT track that runs in and around the oval. From first glance, if the opener is an indication, it may well be the best and most exciting IT course ever run on the West Coast. Not too long and not too short, a high and wild jump and a variety of sliding comer. All of the action is right in fron t of the fans and Corona does have a winner. From start to finish it was wild and close. Spins, spills and high flying jumps. Veterans Skip Van Leeuwen and Dave Hansen were on hand to challenge Terry Dorsch and Gary Scott. Hansen and Scott each won a heat race. Hansen then came back to edge the other three in the trophy dash on the last lap. In the final, the four ran tied together until first Hansen fell off and then Van Dave Hansen, trophy dash winner, has a laugh. in this area. The track, liked by both riders and fans, will h 0 s t another IT event on Saturday night, September 4. The track gives way this coming Saturday night only to the USAC midgets but it will be back to every Saturday night racing in another week. The Novice riders supplied their share of action from beginning to end and it was Scott Brelsford flrst across the line in both the heat and flnal but he was penalized one position in the final and moved back to second when it was found that he had improperly installed his silencer. All Novice riders were instructed before the races that all silencers would be checked following the Novice final The Brelsford Yamaha had a silencer on, a track requiremen t, bu t was installed so it flt well up and over the expansion chaml>er, leaving the end, the open end, sticking through, resulted in no muffling effect. This. gave the win to Gary Caldwell and his Bultaco who had led the early laps. Gary was a close second at the finish but later took home first place points and money.
