Cordially invite you to attend the free, preview showing of the 1972 MODELS I I DISTIICT 36 BA TTlE Foley's Double Cut By Bill Spencer HAYWARD, CAL., Aug. 7, 1971 National Scrambles Champion Jim Foley pulled off another double win in the 250 Expert and 500 Expert classes to keep the fight for District high points thriving. The count stands at 10 points difference between John Gennai and the AMA scrambles champ. This is quite a difference from the 25 points of just a month ago and with 2Y, months still remaining on the calendar, the battle is still up for grabs. Starting for the 250 Expert Main was its usual difficult task and the first was a false start as three riders were left sitting. On the second, Foley got the jump on Mike VanLienden and Steve Hernandez wh.ile Gennai laid it into fourth. As Foley pulled away from the pack, Gennai went right to work on the two riders in front of him. Hernandez had problems and Gennai got him on lap eight and two laps later, Gennai got under Mike and the chase for Foley was under way. Too many laps had gone by, however, and although Gennai was right on Foley at the checkered, Foley was still in complete control. In the 500 Expert Main, Foley again ..st turn and that was led it in to the Y that. Second place was up for grabs with VanLienden, McCaul and Hocking all seeking the same spot. VanLienden had it for the first three laps and then Hocking slipped under for the pass and held second for the rest of the race. McCaul was having his problems after the half way mark and low-sided out of the action while lapping. At the checkered there was a big difference between first and second with VanLienden firmly in control of third and a good fight going on between Dick Anderson and Brian O'Hagan for fourth. Anderson's 500 Triumph had the advantage and took that spot as O'Hagan's new 400 Suzuki is still getting used to race tracks. The 650 Expert battle is shaping up as a figh t to see if somebody can contain Bill Budde. Starting out the Main was Budde with his hands full of Bruce Teixeira who got tipped and bailed, giving second to Bill Landsborough with Bud Smith in third. Fred Cziska had his rear wheel full of John Gennai and containing him was the feat of the night. Fred held off the current point leader for three laps but Gennai finally found a way around and charged off after the first three. Budde and Landsborough were fairly well out in the lead by this time and the. fight between Smith and Gennai developed but it didn't last long. Smith had the horsepower bu t Gennai had the ability and at the checkered, it was Gennai third and Smith fourth. (Results on page 28) I ~ ~ Friday, Saturday and Sunday August27th,2Sthand 29th FRO. BIG NIGH By Bill Spencer LOm, CAL., Aug. 6, 1971 - Bud Smith brough t his Cycle City Triumph in for its fourth Main Event win of the Lodi M.C. night season and is in full charge of the high point run for that class. Smith's counterpart, Jimmie Brooks, led the 10-lap Main off with a spectacular outside, sliding past three riders. At that point it was Brooks, Al Ludwigsen, Dan Hughes and Smith. Continuing around the tree tum and over the jump, Brooks began to stretch the lead when, in the slippery sweeper,
