Bob, not only won all three motos, but also set low E.T. over the 250's and Open class bikes as well. Don Schaberg (CZ), of Honda of Tillamook was always there behind Bob, but Leach's Husky could always charge away to a comfortable lead at the end of each moto. Salem's own Ken Buirley had a fine day, finally getting by Butch Waymire's Rickman with his Penton. It was easy to see they both wan ted that first place badly bu t Ken was a bit sharper leaning his bike over so far his pegs would almost plow a new furrow in every corner. Penton-mounted Rick Andrews from Eugene, Ore., just nosed out Ron Pomeroy's Yamaha for third place. All 125's ran together creating quite a problem on scoring but some very fine racing. Monte Bothum's Suzuki had the power today, getting by Kim Freeburn (Ric) in the Intermediate class. In third place was Wally Klemp (Yam) from Woodburo, Ore. If little 90-pound Wally gets a little more honepower out of his scooter, watch out for the flying flea. Even California was represented today by Jim Powen (Bul) out of Playa Del Rey. Jim and Tom Jette's CZ battled all the time with Jette getting the win the 250 Junior class. Helping keep the track "undusty", which is a problem in hot weather here, Father Goose, Fred Harris, tried a new type of oil-based substance that worked well un til the second heal Then, churned away by the riden, it got right dusty. Fred said by the next race, August 8, ..e'll have our problems solved. (Reslllts on paKe 28) Associates and a long-term association is in th e making. Current point leader for District 36, John Gennai djdn't have any difficulty getting used to this new facility as he won both the 250 and 650 Expert Mains. The track sports 50-60 foot wide turns, straights that are banked, and a five-foot jump for emphasis. Although it wasn't expected to stay smooth and hold together, it did, and many of the racers considered it to be the best track they had ever run. Kudos to Harold Murrell for track preparation and management. For the main event, Gennai led the entire distance' over Rick Hocking and Pat Hennen. Fourth was a battle between Pat McCaul, Steve Hernandez and Bill Budde with McCaul finally taking that spot at the checkered. Budde beat out Hernandez for fifth as these three traded the fourth-place spot four times with McCaul doing his deep-braking slides and Hernandez backing off the comen. In the 650 Expert Main it was Bill Landsborough taking the lead for the first lap with Gennai grabbing the rest. Landsborough held onto second for the distance with Bill Budde working past Mike Thompson for third. Gennai showed the packed house why he is holding down the number one spot for this season's points by demonstrating feet up slides coming off the last turn and flying through the infield section and over the jump. In the 650 Novice fight, Adam Sabedra came from a distant fourth place on lap one to win over Rich Braquet and AI DeHoyos. Sabedra was all smiles after th e race, indicating how much he liked the track. Mike VanLienden added a surprise to the 500 Expert bash with a wire-to-wire win over Rick Hocking and teammate Brian O'Hagan. Pete Francini held off the advances of -ET Cycle ace Neil McGregor and won the 250 Junior Main aboard his Cycle Center tuned Bultaco. Jeff Pacheco made it two main event wins in a row in the 250 Novice class on board his Bob Swanson Ossa and this domination of that class is not the usual occurrance when you have fifty riden sign up for one race.
