WEHAVEOUROWN NOVICE COMPUTER Well, we went out and bought one of them new-fangled computers and it's a real wonder machine - we wonder when it will start working right. Our Circulation Department, Marla and Rheha, are walking around glassy-eyed trying to re-program Wallis, our Novice computer, with the old list of subscribers while trying to keep up with the new ones that a special agent of the federal government brings by each day. So, Dear Subscribers, if you happen to notice that your usual Cycle-News seems to have been replaced by funny-looking brochures advertising acreage in scenic Trona, please write us a polite note explaining the situation. If you will, enclose a couple of aspirins. 'IOllLE By w. M. Askins Art by B.E.R. Service Joyce Soyka of canoga Patk, Calif. holds down a tame job....And, she indulges in a wild and hairy hobby. Occupationally, Mrs. Soyka does routine laboratory work in gastro-neurology at the Valley Presbyterian Hospital. On weekends and holidays she put on her helmet and cycle togs and participates in motorcycle races against men. And, she has compiled a record of 10 victories. Even though she is a member of the End Does, a women's cycle club, Joyce insists on racing against men; they are much tougher competition. "There are so many more men racers and they are so much superior." The 27 -year old wife of a management analyst and the mother of a 10-year old daughter has only lost five races thus far. She straddled a motorcycle for the first time only 11 months ago. This completely upset her pattern of life as housewife and nurse and mother and water skier and Girl Scout leader. Her husband bought a small cycle and in her third ride on it, it flipped and she sustained a broken leg. But the injury only served to redouble her determination to master the motorcycle. She was still on crutches when a friend took her to a program of motorcycle races. She knew instantly that was for her. As soon as her leg had healed, she entered races with the small cycle. This only served to demand that her husband get "a real machine." The dealer from whom they bought the cycle was so impressed that he became the sponsor of her racing. To Joyce her motorcycle is like her body, in that it needs constant care and attention. The thrill of cycling to her is that of freedom, with an accompanyirig sense of responsibility for the proper performance. "'t is a fantastic feeling to me to realize that my motorcycle with such power and capability is under my complete control. I have no interest in the so
