I know I have a reputation for rough riding but others indulge in the same kind of tactics. I simply told Cram to expect a dose of his own medicine," said DeSoto. Cram and DeSoto ate dinner together Sunday nigh t. Cram won the 500 Senior race hut Billy Urban had the big day among the Seniors. Urban won the 125 class with three wins on his Puch and the 250 class on his Maico. Dave Smith looked fast Sunday, sticking with DeSoto and Cram in two motos though he only beat Cram once. Smith (Maico) fmished second to Cram, and ahead of fellow Maico rider Mark Nohr. Lyle Green (DKW) and Mike Garrett (Pen) fmished two-three behind Urban in the 125 class but never got close enough to threaten Urban's overall win. In the 250 Expert class Doug Grant (AJS) took second and Jon Derhammer (CZ) was third. Richard Eierstedt (Bul) added a point to his Penton Series lead by again running away with three clear-cut wins in the 250 Intennediate division. Taylor Sisco (l'jiai) won the first two motos in the 500 Junior division and appeared well on his way to a win when he fell while running second in the last race. He (Co,ntinued from Page 1) finished too far back to overcome the three steady rides of Reed Mayne and ended up second overall behind Mayne's Suzuki. The 250 Junior Division winners dominated their races. Gary Faxon (CZ) won all three in the first division beating out fellow CZ pilots Doug Sherman and Jeff Harriott. John !sitt had two ftfsts and a second to win the next division over Walt Young and Kent Graham. Kendall Markley (CZ) had to chase Roarke Early (Mai) for the entire first moto to catch him on the last lap and then went on to win the last two easily. Early finished second and Paul Schulz (Ric) was third. Carlsbad's own Tom Sugg won the 500 Intermediate class on a CZ ahead of Richard Franklin (CZ) and Al Newsom (Suz). Lee Raff (Hod) and Joseph Fumia (Kaw) were winners in the 100 divisions. Kevin Busbmaier (CZ), David Menzimer (Bul), and Chuck Bower (Pen) won their respective divisions in the 125 class. John Vandergeest swept the 125 Intermediate class with three wins on a Puch to beat out Mark Dobb (DKW) and Barry Porter (Bul). Hoclcie Wins Ascot Night MX Cram (1) and DeSoto in a wild battle. By Eric Raits GARDENA, CAL., July 22, 1971 Harbor City teenager Danny Hoclde took a first in the 250 Expert class at the Thursday night Ascot motocross after threatening all year. Hockie, on the new Dick Mann Replica Ossa used the bad breaks of Mike Cram and Bryar Holcomb in the first moto to take home ftfst place money. Cram, on a Maico, and Holcomb (Ric), both got off in their initial outing to finish poorly. Cram's seventh and Holcomb's 13th coupled with a Hockie win gave the Ossa rider an insurmountable margin. Cram fought back in the last two races, getting a second and a first ahead of Holcomb but a second and third overall were the best the two experienced pilots could salvage. Cram reversed the tables in the 500 Expert class to take a win on his 400 Maico. John DeSoto was back oohis big orange Suzuki but brake problems dropped him to 10th in the first moto. DeSoto won the last two convincingly but Cram's first and two seconnds were enough for the overall win ahead of the Hawaiian. Jeff Wrigh t (Ric) continued his mastery of the 125 Expert class with three easy wins. Greg Cunningham and Bryar Holcomb finished second and third. The 500 Juniors again provided the excitement among the freshman races. Bill Madden led all the way and won on his CZ but the action was behind him. Mike Higashi, Bill Holst and Mike Todd fought like savages for second place until the last lap when first Holst feU off and then Highashi followed his lead a little farther on. Todd moved gladly into the vacated second spot as K. Parker took over third. The 100 class found a new face up front. Dennis Andre switched from the 250 class and a Greeves Challenger to the 100's and a Honda this year but had found tough sledding until this Thursday. Andre, who has shown consistent improvement took over the lead from Alex Posea going over the lake and pulled out to a comfortable margin. Posca dropped to third, letting the Scott Doornbos Honda into second spot at the finish. The valves vs. two-stroke battle went clearly to the Hondas this nigh t. Mark Skolil (Mai) and Dave O'Haver (Oss) won both their heat races and then met head on in the 250 Junior final to finish one-two. Tom Gross, Dan Haacker and Robin Clark staged a blanket race for third hardly yards apart for thTee laps until Gross took the checkered flag. Intennediate winners were Mike Horstman in the 250's on a CZ, Mike Skelton (DKW)' 125's and Cliff Bean (Mai) in the 500's.
