Other winners tonight were Archie Ortega in the 500 Senior ST and none other than National number 3 David Aldana in the 250 Senior S.T. David, as usual, made hu presence well known as he stonned his way from a back row start in the heat race to take flfst place from Mike Myers (Yam). Aldana (BSA) made his second 'appearance of the evening in the 250 Sr. S.T. Main. This was the race of the night and also a test for Scott Smith. Unfortunately, Smith's engine seized in the second lap and he was out for the night but much to the delight of the crowd Aldana rode like Smith was right on his heels with some of the most spectacular riding El Toro fans have seen all year. SPONSORS JOIN SMRA Two Dallas-based firms have gone racing; joining along with Amalie Motorcycle Oil are Universal Accessories Incorporated and Reeder Products Company. Their debut marks the third major sponsor to join the ranks of those offering contingency prize money to winners competing on the SMRA circuit. Through July 1, "young John R." has 485 points to top the point standings, but he's hearing the charge of Ted Nowak on his rear tire only 5 points behind. Tony Rogers has a solid third with 397 while Mike Chamberlain's 330 is all but sound with Jim Dawson only 10 points trailing. Top Amateur is D. Brown in 12th, only two points shy of Bob Maynard; top Novice is the latest whizz, Ken Zahrt. in 25th position. The beginning of the MX Standings appears on page 28.
