Urban Wins CMC Pair
By Eric Raits
CARLSBAD, CAL., July 11, 1971 San Diegan Bill Urban picked up twin
victories in the money classes at today's
CMC
Carlsbad
motocross.
Urban
whipped chief competitors Tom Rapp
in the 250 Expert class and Murray
Hoffman in the 125 Experts.
Bultaco's Rapp started the day in the
lead by winning the first 250 race ahead
of Urban but the eventual winner got
faster as the day progressed and beat
Rapp the last two. Rapp managed to get
within passing distance of Urban several
times but bobbled each time and had to
settle for second. Rapp's best ride- came
in the third moto off a poor start and
then a masterful push from last to
second place in two-thirds of a lap.
Dave Boydstun took a solid third
with three good efforts. The Maico pilot
led the second moto until his stinger
broke, dropping him to third. In the last
mota he fell, getting back up in last
place. Boydstun worked his way back to
sixth, only to fall again, get up and
..-ork his way to siJ
