.... '" "i >- :; .., ~ UJ Z UJ ..J U >- U IYIII I ••• "America's No. 1 weekly motorcycle newspaper. You'll always see it FIRST in Cycle News'" THE FAULT. DEAR BRUTUS.,.. Dominguez Hills and the Corona trails (not the Raceway) are now closed, not because of anti-bike laws, noise, police, etc., but because of the bikers themselves. According to the policeman I talked to at Dominguez, the area was closed because of two things: L) Some thoughtless biker broke his arm there and sued the owner of the hills. If you get hurt, don't sue; tre owner will probably close the area, as was done in this area. If he hadn't sued, maybe we could all still ride there. 2.) The area had been surveyed and set up with markers, etc., for future buildings. The markers were tom up by the bikers. It's costing the owner too much to let us ride there. The Corona trails, according to two people who said they were the owners, arc closed because the bikers were tearing up the hills. Instead of sticking to the already existing trails, virgin land was tom up, causing erosion. The land was being used to graze sheep on. You can't grow anything on an eroded hill. What I'm trying to get across is that it's nol always noise, anti-bike laws, etc., but the though tless actions of us bikers that force the land owners to close th areas. In the future let's keep it cool sO maybe there will be something to ride on without driving over 100 miles. Think about it. LLOYD SIMES Downey, Calif. STOP KIDS? Overpopulation has been the key factor in the increasing loss of our open land for recreational uses such as motorcycling. In order to protect our open lands and quality of life, we in Zero Populatinn Growth are figh ting for sensible limited population growth in California. Senseless population growth creates tremendous social problems, which creates the pressure to consume land for subdivisions rather than for Publisher Charles Clayton Business Manager Sharon Clayton General Manager Tom Culp Managing Editor John Bethea Assistant Editor .....•... DOCMOTT Sierra Madre, Calif. We alway's like to hear from our ruders when we are "dropping the ball" in an area so that we can do a little better next time around. However, you forgot to mention where your raoes are held, when, and what type they are. You didn't I.n. us much to go on so it moy be a littl. difficult to fulfill your requests since we don't know what you're talking SUPPORTS OAK It is plain to see, that the standard of motocross in and around California is not good enough to match the high standards riders possess in this country. But reference must be made to one track in Mojave. named Oak Creek Ranch. The potential of this, and its progress, can produce riders of top class material. This is the place to learn the trade, and the promoter is worthy of suppon, from those riders activdy involved in the spon. S.30 REACTION Well, yesterday was the 500 GP here in Czecho. at Stribre. It had been raining every day for about a week so you can guess what 1 thought it would be like. But, when we got there on Saturday it was just wonderful, no mud, I have just read the editorial "Junior Pros Not Wanted" by John Bethea. I would like to know where he obtained his in formation. I have asked this question of three high school coaches Your coverage of the Loudon National was pretty good, however, and probably not your fault - was the listing of the finishers in the Junior race. I finished fourth but all you listed was my number (99). I was riding a Yamaha TR2. Keep up the road race coverage. JAMES CHEN Carson, Calif. Five weeks later I wrote them, asking where my sh irts were. They have no phone. I was advised by return mail that they were backlogged with orden and were moving their business. They also stated that all backlogged orders would be filled by the end of the week, the six th week since I had paid. Two weeks later I wrote them another letter advising them that I wanted my shirts or my money back. That letter didn't even receive the courtesy of a reply. I have now given up hope of receiving my shirts, but hopefully other cyclists will not be taken in by their ads. They have nice shirts but what good are they if you never get them? Oh, well. DAVE BROWN Alhambra, Calif. HILLTOPPERS TOPS VOICES OF THE WEST and in return they have put the question to the AAU without an answer. Let's have all the truth. A rider may ride class "C", or Pro as you call it, and still ride sportsman events up until the time he becomes an Expert in class "e". He receives monies for class "e" in other type events and this in itself makes him a pro. Please explain how he can also ride sportsman events - or novice. J. SMlTH Alta Lorna, Calif. to the AMA. How.ver, outside th. AMA are other sanctioning groups lik. th. ACA, CMC, etc. which also give r.ders a ranking like Junior. Many of these riders do not b.long to the AMA and from these ranks, a few promoters will st41ge races in which Junior riders are offered money for winning. Wh.ther h. rides ci
