Three more classes of Experts completed the program. Kenny Zahrt, a 14-year-old from CanoRa Park, has been smoking the and kept on going for one of the biggest margins of the day. Appropriately, he was riding a Pen Lon. Jeff Weber won the final two motos of the second 100 Junior division, drawing heaps of power from a Suzuki 90. He does neat broadslides, goes fast, and simply stays in contra,!. Weber stuck a piston in the first round, ruining his chances for an overall win, but shined all the way to second place behind John Nocella. 500 Intermediate Mark Stephenson picked the lousiest way to almost lose a race. He won the first two matos, with a good dice with Chuck Rouse in the latter. There was little to worry about going in to the fmal, for Rouse never started the first race. Rouse again put on the chase but Stephenson held him at bay. As he ascended the hill towards the checkered to complete a sweep, his CZ suddenly ran out of low-end. Rouse passed him while Mark pulled in the clutch to get the revs back up. A rider passed him. Now he had to get traction. Here comes a whole gaggle of riders. A final panicky attempt, liberally doused with picturesque language, prodded the reluctant machine up the tricky hill, barely saving his point lead. , ' '. Kent Graham (719) and Tim Battersclag mixed things up a bit. time practicing in-the-air cross-ups and other fancy manuevers. Ken Ratzloff, a consistent finisher at these events, took second. Battenschlag, however, ran into more than his share of misfortune and eventually finished third overall. Graham took an easy win once Time was gone while Tom Cale rode three consistent motos for a second. Taylor Sisco and Mark Anderson won three motos apiece, taking Divisions I and II of the 500 Juniors. Sisco has just a couple of motocrosses under his belt after a successful IT career and, at 14, looks promising, to say the least. Darrell Sutherland gave Taylor several hard laps but did too much slipping and sliding, ending up in th e third spot behind Reed Mayne. Anderson, who goes very fast with little effort, won his races with little opposition. . Other winners include Mike Cram, sweeping the 500 Experts; David Helleck, 250 Expert; and Rick Brown, conquering a field of three 125 Experts. (Results a n page 48) • .aJa Division Ill, 125 Juniors.
