Rapp Raps Dunes Foes .... m N N " ..., " c: By John Grout Photos by Racing Photos VALENCIA, CAL., June 13, 1971 Tom Rapp, "Mr. Bultaco" of Buena Park, accounted for three straight wins in the 250 Senior class to take overall winner at the Indian Dunes motocross. Though he was led from the starting line in two heats, once by Mark Abbatoye, a sensational young rookie on a Rickman, Rapp was able to pull away from a formidable field sucb as Dave Rodgers, Tim Hart Bob Messer, Mike Runyard, and first-day Senior Dick Eierstedt. Eierstedt, by virtue of the fact that he has won 20 of his last 21 Junior ~ w Z W ..J U >- U ~ h" .... "''' ~ .;o;",,_.. ~~ Dave Rodgers won the the125 Expert Class. races, rolled off the starting line in the first race to be one of the few to hold a temporary lead over the high-flying Rapp. Finishers behind Rapp were Rodgers and Runyard. Jim West' again sent his Husky in quest of an Open Senior victory and that's just what he went home with, After waging a dirt-kicker with a 'pair of Maicos belonging to Tim Hart and Gary Chaplin, West was finally able to gain long yardage and win all three heats. Dave Rodgers, also coming from behind in every heat in the 125 Senior contest was able to salvage a one-point squeeker over Don Emler and Eddie Cole.
