PRICE THIRTY CENTS
Desert Bomb
LUCERNE VALLEY, CAL., May
16, 1971 - The Spokebenders
M.C.'s Hare & Hound today
touched off a series of complaints
from many of the top Desert aces
and resulted in a petition of
protest being signed and delivered
to District 37 referee Larry Haley.
Inefficient lime marking was one
reason for the unhappiness caused
and lack of adequate danger
markings was another. This second
reason caused Tom Poteet to
narrowly miss serious injury. The
unofficial report is that Bill
Saltzman claimed first overall
when J.N. Roberts pulled into the
pits having missed one check.
Report on the events on page 17.
Gatorade GP
Three thousand road racing fans
trucked over to Orange County
International Raceway to watch
Nortons take the Open classes,
Kawasaki dominate the 500's and
Yamaha, nearly everything else
left. The gorgeous sunshine
brought out the AFM regulars and
a few surprise guests. Story, plus
lots of pictures, is on page 8.
