CASCADE BENEFIT RACE Schoolboys .Squander Lockhart Laurels By Pete Szilagyi Photo by Richard Creed LOCKHART, TEXAS, April 25,1971 Austin and Houston riders took home most of the cash today at Southwest Motocross Park. ,The very rough Lockhart course always attracts the top Texas talent and this cloudy Sunday was no exception. 'High-schooler Jack Hicks rode his Penton to victory in the first two motos of the 125 class. Jack ju-jued the competition with his full-lock slides through the rocky' off-camber turns. Steve Stackable (Yam) and Greg Graham (Puch) diced for the other two money spots in the class. Stackable's fast, funky, fuschia AT-l aced all the little-bore hotshoes in the final heat. The 2,50 and Open class money went to two college students. Bob Grah;un, Houston bar aspirant (law-schooler, if you please), easily won all three 250 Senior motos on his trusty AJ. Bob gets most people's vote as the Lone Star State's most professional, poised, and personable motocrosser. Wayne Jones swapped his Husky for a Kawasaki today and nipped Dave Dismukes (CZ) for second place 250 coin. A Southwest Texas State freshman, Jack O'Leary took Open Sr. laurels on his 400 Maico. Greg Graham beat O'Leary in th e second moto after Jackie took a side-trip through the scrub oak near the stock-tank. Suzuki-mounted Graham pressed O'Leary consistently through all three heats for the closest competition Jackie has seen in a long time. In addition to being one of the state's finest bike'1', O'Leary is a Texas high-h urdles track champ. Huskies dominated the big-bore Junior class with Bell Easter's 400 taking the top trophy. Montesa mounted Craig Glover worked for his 250 Junior win. in the most freewheeling class at Lockhart. The 1.2 mile course should be long enough to accommodate' 20 riders, but the 250 Juniors still managed to tangle handlebars and crash at every opportunity. Two feisty Spaniards, an Ossa and a Bultaco, even met in mid-air over a jump and plopped their riders ignominiously into the mud.
