A tlanta, Cumberland next races on AMA circuit Coming up on the AMA National trail April 24 and 25 is an all new $15,000 125 mile road race over the 2,6 mile roller-eoaster track at Road Atlanta north of Atlanta, Georgia. It will be a first time ever for motorcycles on this new road course that has been acclaimed as the most beautiful in America. This track has intelligent design as competitor and spectatoT 2-DA Y"HOPE" TOUI More than 2000 family motorcyclists will take to the road April 17 and 18, headed for the Burroughs High School grounds in Ridgecrest, Calif., in the 11th annual Southern California Road Riders Commi ttee-City of Hope Spring Tour, according to Burroughs High School Principal, John Cissne. Ridgecrest Recreational Director Bill Burcie said his community will again host the two-day event, benefiting City of Hope Medical Center in its battle against catastrophic diseases. Sponsored by the Ridgecrest . Chamber of Commerce the two-day tour will attract motorcyclists from all parts of the Southland, Nevada and Arizona, coordinated by Jack Kisner of Cypress. Other events will include a parade featuring the Ace of Clubs Drill Team, while Major Herb Harker will lead the Victor McLaglen Drill Team. Stunts and feats of skill will be performed by clubs competing for R.R.C. points. The $3.50 entry fee, will help support expansion programs under way in patient care, research and education at the City of Hope. CYCLE PARK HEARING APR. 8 A public hearing about allowing cycle parks will be held tliis Thursday, 7 :30 p.rn. at the Carson City Hall, 21919 S. Avalon, in Carson, Calif. Councilmen say that a large eno~gh turnout at the hearing may convince them. there is a need for places for kids to ride motor bikes in Carson. accommodations have been caretully planned for convenience and safety. From one huge knoll inside the course more than two-thirds of the running surface and three of the most active turns are visible. Concession and rest room facilities are modern and ample. The track itself is steeply undulating, including a total elevation change of over 105 feet. Set in a 380 acre tract of pines and dogwood Road Atlanta should be one of the most enjoyable events on the 1971 AMA circuit. The dogwoods will be in bloom and the hills of northern Georgia will be richly green, making this race the ideal occasion for a spring tour. . Next, May 2, is the fll"st half-mile dirt track Championship on the circuit, also a meet acclaimed for its pleasant and pastoral setting. Cumberland, Maryland's horse track, located at the foot of huge rocky bluffs that define the border of West Virginia right across the Pomtomac River, will host a 10-mile event paying $7,500 to the nation's best track specialists. . Mert Lawwill, 1970's Cumberland winner, may not be in contention, having broken his elbow in a spill at Daytona. Lawwill's injury leaves no particular rider favored and the win may fall to any of the big four-stroke machines. ~ w Z w oJ (.) > (.) SAFETY INSTITUTE The custom motorcycle industry has just announced the formation of the National Custom Cycle Safety Institute (NCCSl). The new organization has been established by leading manufacturers of custom parts and accessories. The main function of the NCCSI is to promote safety _nationally by invoking standards for manufacturers of custom parts and to provide guide lines, information and representation in national and state legislation.
