Bakersfield's Rick Newby showed
flashes of giving Scott trouble in races
to come at Ascot this year. He finished
third in the final. Scott twice appeared
to not be on his way to the final in the
heat race. First a plug wire dropped off.
He got that corrected but lost the lead
and had worked back up to thi)'d before
Don Walters flew over the handlebars on
one of the new turns. This was right in
front of Gary who did a professional job
of missing but had to start on the rear
line in the finaL
