WOODLAND WAsa, March 21, 1971 - The track was fast and there were many
spills during the day, but no serious injuries. 244 riders turned out. .
By the time the heats were timed in there was 530 for .fast tune over all and
another 55 for fast time in the 100cc class heats donated as pnze money. Another 55
was to go to the winner of the lOOcc B Main. Gary Kapus collected the fast time
money by timing in his 250cc Kawasaki
with a time of 1.34.4 for a four lap heat
race. Bill Ehrens collected the fast time
in the 100cc class with 1 :40.0.

Over the years I'd accumulated a small truckload of motorcycle parts,
.~ including a dismantled 1954 Matchless, that I had no particular use for.

I frequently make. There were lug boxes
and coffee cans all over my workshop
full of similar mistakes as weU as tires
and parts discarded in favor of some
modification.
Hauling it down to the Cycle
Swap-Q.Rama, I hoped to get a hundred
dollars for the lot. What 1 dreaded most
was having to haul it back in case
nobody else wanted it.
I needn't have worried. A few
minutes after the doors opened I had
fIVe collectors bidding for the Matchless.
Each one wanted different pieces of the
rusty hulk to complete some rig that he
was restoring. We had a good old time
talking about Matchless and Ajay lore.
It was fun to see their faces ligh t up
when I named the prices I wanted. In a
few hOUTS all my stuff was all in the
happy hands of people who needed it
far wone than I, and I was 5150 to the
good. Soon there will be fIVe more
MatchleslCs on the road. I was happy
too.
