.... '" g' .J:: ~ :;; ~ ~ w ...J ~ U MAKING MUSIC By Dodie Stingley CROWLEY, TEXAS, March 14, 1971 Everyone was anxiously awaiting the 250 Sr. class at Crowley Motorsport Park today as David Music would be riding his brand new 250 Maico for the first time. David has been showing winning skill in the 125 Sr. class for several months now. He decided to move up to a bigger bike and compete with Texas top rider Anthony Jones, who is migh ty hard to beat, h was a battle royal with Anthony on his new Husky getting the jump and taking the lead every time. But after a couple of laps David moved up and passed him all three matos, winning for himself first place money, giving Anthony second. The weather started out to be beautiful, but before the afternoon was over, a miserable dust sto-rm blew in, covering everyone and everything with sand. Phil Snipes (CZ) who has been winning first place in the 500/0pen Sr. class for several weeks now had a little tough luck today, with Wyman Priddy (Hus) beating him out of first place. Don Osborne (the man from Waco on a mean Maico) looked mighty good taking 3rd. The track is built for speed and some of the ·riders used too much speed and found out the hard way that it ain't the way to ~o; The Mini-Bikes got a crack at their track this week and it's a dandy. Ricky Hart ran his win streak to two in one class but didn't fare too well in the class he made so exciting last week. The three 100cc Novke classes are sporting a lot of new riders but the one to keep an eye on was First Division second place finisher Randy Monroe at Photo by Skip Gallagher 12 years of age and probably sixty pounds soaking wet. Randy mounted on a baby Green put much pressure on first place Robert Thompson. Give Randy a couple more weeks and then look out! The 100-125 Am/Ex. always put on a good show and Scott Smith and Bobby Sanders didn't disappoint the crowd. Bobby, as usual got that drive off the line and it took Scott a good lap to get within striking distance. In the final heat, Bobby held him to the last turn and then Scott came strong, making it three for three for the day. Both 125cc Novice classes had come-from-behind winners, which no catch 'em Penton riders always get'um Gold makes for good racing. When they got to that number one spot it was their ball game all the way. Mike McClees took Division I and Art Castell number [I. After having two heats of no go Mike Moon figured out his problem and was off the line first and held it against a hard charge from J amey Blunt'who rode it to a photo finish. . Jamey still managed to pick up the gold which made him feel a little better after having problems with his other bikes. Dick Jenkins took the win for the 175 cc Novice class. Tom Stanford kept the family honor alive by taking the fltst Division 250cc Novices. Brother Toby took the second Division. Scott Smith took the Am/Ex. class beating out Gary Caldwell in a good duel. Ron Foster who had much hard luck last week came back in spades to take the 350cc Nov. class. Lionel Beard traded his four-stroke for a two-stroke and came up with the win in the 500cc Nov. class. Chuck Wheat and Scott Smith brought it right down to the wire in a real charge partner duel that sawall kinds of speed and some fantastic full lock slides. Scott messed up in the second heat which opened the door for Chuck and you don't open a door for him and not expect him to go through it. Jim Daly finished off the afternoon by taking the 650cc Novice class over . Ralph Hendricks and Bryan Dalton. (Results on page 26) MOTOCROSS MODEL $32.00 pair Dealer Inquiries Invlled Phone: I.
