Evel's Mark I Skycycle was unveiled to reveal that it had been fitted with a cowboy saddle and riser handlebars. The daredevil had made a timely exit before the cover was removed revealing the joke to the huge, astonished crowd. Shortly thereafter, the Skycycle had to be hidden away. It had become a hazard to public safety, as showgoers climbed on top of displays to get a look at the Tumwater·fueled, steam jet powered motorcycle. After greeting the H·D dealers at a social get.together, Knievel piloted his giant red Kenworth diesel rig to ClUcago, where he will attempt to set an indoor jump record at a motorcycle show there on March 26th. Multiply that by the three people that our surveys have shown read each copy bought, and you can see why a little item in Cycle News gets such a big reaction. It's a great responsibility to have 165,000 proofreaders out there. That is why we are so careful to get our facts straight and not print anything that isn't true. But occasionally we do goof. When that happens we appreciate hearing about it so we can set it straight. So keep those cards and letters coming, folks. LOTS OF EVENTS IN CALENDAR As of last week, Cycle News West had 177 motorcycle events in its future calendar, not including AMA nationals or professional races. Does anybody know how many events OUT caJendar listed all last vear? Ya thought we weren't gonna run another Finish the Funny didn't ya? Well, we must admit that each time ",e've run this contest in the past we've made bets that nobody - NOBODY - could. come up with a keen and funny entry. Each time, we've lost our $5 bet to some witty winner with a phunnY'graphic mind. But, this time we know we've got ya. This is such a dull cartoon, nothing anybody could say would improve it. Swap-O-Rama Expected To Draw Capacity Crowd COSTA MESA, CALIF. - Final preparations are underway for next week's Cycle News CYCLE S\VAP·O·RAMA at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa. The event. first of its kind ever held in the United States, is expected to draw buyers and sellers from as far away as Central California. CO'promoter Larry Huffman said he has been "swamped with phone calls from sellers wanting to rent spaces'" Sellers' spaces will be sold on a first·come, first·served basis beginning at noon, Friday, ~Iareh 26th. Set·up will be from noon to 5 p.m. and the doors to the giant New Products Pavilion Building will be opened to the public from 5 PM to midnight. A 7·hour live remote broadcast on KFOX Radio w~l be heard during the entire wap-O·Rama. Slated for one night only, the Cycle News Swap-O·Rama has been called the largest motorcycle and mini·bike bazaar and auction ever held. In additiona, thousands of dollars worth of leftover dealer accessories and parts will be offered in special dealers' booths. The owners of Long Beach Honda reserved a dealer space in advance with ihe intent of bringing in several truckloads of used motorcycles of all makes and models they've had stored in a warehouse. Mechanic's liens, basket cases, used bikes of all types will be sold on a "best cash offer" basis. It's an opportunity to save ma.ny dollars on that used bike you've been looking for. Mark the date down: Friday, March 26tb from 5 p.m. to midnight at the Orange County Fairgrounds. Admission: $3 for seUers, $1 for buyeers, 50 cents for kids under 12. Sorry, no advance reservations for swappers - booths go on sale at noon Friday.
