WHERE YOU MAY RIDE approves other maps, Honda Motorcycle dealers will add these new regions to their selection. For increased enjoyment and trouble free riding, see the Honda dealer in your area. (Note: Southern California area maps only are available at present). Ever wonder where you are going to ride next weekend? For those who have spent endless weekends searching for open land, American Honda motorcycle dealers now have a number of maps showing approved riding areas in Southern California. The Honda Trail Guides cover from Big Bear Lake to Saugus and they show which lands are open and where you will end up if you start over the mountain. Of special interest are many locations especially set aside for minibike riding and beginners. If you hesitate to try a new area, don't know about access to fire roads, or which lands are open to motorcycle riding, the new Honda Trail Guides will show all approved roads and riding areas covered by each map. Additional areas are being added regularly. While exchanging overall wins at the CMC's Steen's Series, they held off the efforts of many of this country's top motocross riders. During their last event, however, the American's finally got a winner in Bill Urban (right), but Mr. Puch (behind Urban) wasn't at all unhappy - Billy beat the Europeans at Osteen's Bike Park in Pomona, Calif., on another Puch. Both Europeans are 19-years-old and both began racing at age 12. Harry is the youngest Belgian rider to become a Sr. 500ec champion; in 1968 he took six first places in the 250 and 500 classes on Husky and CZ. He became a Puch factory rider last October as did his teammate. While not racing, he works as a welder on giant TV towers. Christian was a Jr. in 1968-69, but turned Sr. in 1970 and had 10 finishes in the top 10 in Belgium runs. He works in a bike shop for the well-known World 250ce Champion Joel Robert. Joel thinks he is a real comer. Before riding Puch, he rode Montesa. The pair left for Europe last week. More than a month in the making, the program first covers ·the annual Salinas, Calif. Scrambles. There, some 650 riders challenge the closed half-mile dirt course offering tigh t turns, small humps and dusty straightaways. When the dust clears - a trophy for the of an old slapstick comedy. It was my first visit to a H.B.C.P. moto-x in over a year and the course has been completely changed, and all for the better, if you like a fast course with some hard T.T. type surface to do a little sliding on. In a way it's more like a rough scrambles and really looked like a fun place to ride. (Results on page 26) By Rich Hoffman HUNTINGTON BEACH, CAL., March 7, 1971 - With most of the local hot shoes riding the Elsinore Grand Prix today the 125cc Novice class had the largest number of entries, requiring two divisions. Winner of Division A was Von Peterson. Bill Henderson captured B Division. Derek McLeish was the happy winner in the Open Expert class, and took horne twenty dollars for his first overall on the big bikes. The 100cc, 125cc and 250cc Experts that normally ride Hungtington Beach were noticeable missing due to Elsinore, but because of a H.B.C.P. rule that all pie platers ride Expert, there was plenty of action including some rather unusual crashes that seemed like something out A.M.X.T.
