Someplace along inhere a rider named (in the program) Roger Harvey started doing very -well. The name wasn't familiar but the style sure was. In order to give riders who sent in entries after all the numbers were filled a chance to ride;- the sponsoring club, the Gripsters, made a rule that no entries could be sold or traded. Entries that couldn't be used would be given to the standby riders. It's a sensible and fair rule. For distributors who simply had to have their sponsored rider entered at the last moment, there was post entry for a fee of $50.00, take it or leave it. One distributor apparently went ahead and entered his famous racer on an entry purchased from another rider, one Some photographers would rather shoot girls than bikes. class. Only the video tape will get things really sorted out and when it does we'll print the full results, as space permits. S UNDAY ELSINORE STRAINS SEAMS In Sunday's big bike race the leader at the end of Lap 2 was Billy Clements, a Husky rider who really moves out. Billy ran pretty well for awhile on Saturday, but a flat tire and a seized engine did him in. On the starting line, Billy was one of the few riders who really looked relaxed. He looks like about II pounds of boy behind a two-foot grin, but his perfonnance is strictly heavyweigh t and man-sized. John DeSoto thought it was a fun ride on Saturday, and being a fun-loving type, he went out and had more fun on Sunday. He won. That's what's fun. It named Roger Harvey. His rider took second overall. Congratulations, Roger Harvey. First overall went to CZ ace John DeSoto. Beyond the first two places things get a titde sticky because the starting times enter into the calculations but it appears that Gary Jones on a Yamaha was third while Jim O'Neal, No.8, on another CZ was in fourth. Fifth and first 125 was Gene Cannady on the Sachs that doesn't know it's supposed to be slower than the 250's. We're walking way out on the limb now, but it looks like the first Junior was Jack Shook. In the other classes it was simply impossible to keep track, but one observer who was tracking only the ladies, says Charlene Higgins, lady Red Dot on a Sachs, was the winner of that Viewfinders M.C. This was a race where you had to have something going for you - either the vitality of youth or the e.."perience of lots and lots of races and that's what the next two riders had. John Rice, who dropped back from his top position on Saturday, apparently found some more stamina on Sund~y because he got into Srd and stayed there. John rode a Sachs on Saturday, a Maico on Sunday. In fourth spot was probably the closest thing mo torcycting is ever going to have to ideal sportsman: Chuck "Feets" Minert.
