They found the track smooth and extremely fast. It then became an excellent, sunny day for a motocross. There were many outstanding riders in all classes, with competition keen in every event. The next motocross will be February 28, 1971 with sign-ups and practice from 7-10:30 a.m. (Results on paRe 26) MONROE, WASH., Feb. 7, 1971 Northwest motorcycle riders are enjoying indoor dirt short track racing at Monroe, Washington, Sunday afternoons this winter. In the past few months, the town has become famous owing to its rodeo grounds and the races run there by the Westside Eagles M.C. On this hazy Sunday, 274 riders appeared for a great day of racing and nearly 1,000 spectators came to watch the fun, and see "old" Ray Huff do his thing. Huff's day consisted of a win in the Open Expert class and a third in the 2 50 Expert event. The Open class consisted of the 350 Experts, one Jim Conway who led it off, and the ·500's and 650's. Conway was a District 36 regular for Sonny Kenyon Cycles, but business forced a move to Dist. 35 and Jim drove up "to see some of the tropps." He led for almost the entire 'first lap, but exited the last turn just the way Ray liked and with a huge broadslide working for him, that was it. Wild Bill Flett 'then came upon the scene and gave cltase to Huff. But the 40-inchers aren't really suited for that smalt of a track and Huff was the winner. In the 250 Expert event, Mark Muscio returned to the dirt and won it handily. Bill Budde came in for 2nd with Huff 3rd. Joel Krick was a runaway wiruner in the 125 Amateur, I mean Junior, event. Shelley Trammell returned to the Powder Puff racing scene after a knee injury but Debbie Jackline is still No.1 in that class. She has more and stronger competition coming as tlte fairer sex becomes more involved in motorcycle racing. Randy Skiver, our local high point leader for the 250cc, took over the lead and easily won. Randy missed a couple of weeks when he went to Houston, where he finished 6th in the National Junior short track race. Other indoor dirt short track races are being held at Gold Creek Park, Woodinville, Wash. on Saturday nights. And Tacoma Sport Center is now running Sportsman races on a small indoor paved track.
