The Houston Astrodome Short Track National has been running
under the giant Texas dome since 1968 and in those four years there
hasn't been a single year in which a Bultaco 250 hasn't taken the
checkered flag in at least one of the two division.
Steve Ellsworth started things off for us in 1968 with a win in the
Amateur division and then we came back the next year w:th Ronnie
Rail at the handlebars and sped away from all the opposition in the
prestigious Expert main. Last year was our tum for an Amateur win
again, thanks to Too Sloan, but this time it was the Expert field that
had to give best to the Bultaco power, handling and stamina. Jim
Odorn used the same type of Pursang 250 that Bultaco moto-crossers
such as Tom Rapp used ~ score wins and high placings in the
International Trans-AMA moto-eross series. Two entirely different
types of racing but the same Bultaco is a winner in both!
It wasn't just the short-track that saw a Bultaco win at the Houston
National this year. Gary Scott used a 250 Pursang in the TT class
(0-900cc) and simply ran away from all the big 650 and 750 twins to
score an unchallenged David and Goliath type win!
