N N ai o ~ w Z w -' U >U Announcing The Yamaha Silver Cup Knievel Lives Again 'Race Evel Knievel sailed over 13 cars at Lions Drag Strip in Wilmington, Calif. last Saturday night to the delight of more than 14,000 spectators. "I've tried this jump on a Norton, a Honda and an American Eagle, "Knievel announced before the jump. "And I've missed it on a Norton, a Honda and an American Eagle," he said. This time, aboard his new Harley-Davidson 750 XR, tuned by Long Beach H-D, he made it in good shape. The action was filmed by George Hamilton's Fanfare Productions for the forthcoming movie of Knievel's life. Eve! is now sponsored by Harley-Davidson and Olympia Beer. Legion To Run Off -road Hollywood Post 43 of the American Legion announced the first annual ACCRA Grand National off-road race from May 1 through May 9,1971. "The ultimate goal is to create off-road racing competition between American Legion districts, areas and then, finally, a run-off of department (state) winners in the ACCRA Grand National," their ,press release states. Motorcycle classes will be with or without sidecars under 250cc and over 250cc. Entry fee for the Grand National will be $350. $100,000 in prize money and contingencies is anticipated. AJS Sets New Baja Mark Doug Douglas of San Bernardino, Calif. set a new Tijuana-to-La Paz record of 27 hours, 15 minutes, eclipsing Kim Kimball's record set Nov. 6 by 11 hours and 39 minutes. Douglas rode a new AJS Stormer 250cc, departing Tijuana at 3 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 13 and arriving in La Paz, 1,000 miles later, at 6:15 a.m. Monday, "very tired". (See full report next week.) Spanish Trial To Start '71 Plans and preparations for the "EI Trial de Espana" are- moving into high gear to start off the 1971 trials year. This unique event, scheduled for Jan. 10 at Saddleback Park, is to honor Spanish motorcycle manufacturers, and to raise fun.ds to send the top Southern California trials rider to Spain for the Spanish round of the European Trials Championship in 1971. All classes of competition will begin riding at 10 a.m. for their choice of many beautiful and unusual trophies donated by Ossa. Montesa.
