CIANCIARULO OUT
FOR SEASON
Adam Cianciarulo announced the
day before Sunday's race that he'll
be sitting out the rest of the Super-
cross series. As it turns out, the
injury he suffered at round 11 of the
Supercross Championship in Utah
is more serious than first thought.
It's been discovered that he suffered
small fractures in his vertebrae in his
lower back. "This is not the news I
was expecting to be sharing today,"
he said, "but after speaking to ad-
ditional specialists and the team, it
is in my best interest that I sit out the
remainder of the Supercross season.
This is a tough pill to swallow as I
was really excited to get back to
racing here in Salt Lake City, but I
have to be smart with what my body
is telling me. For now, I will focus on
my recovery and do everything in my
power to make sure I am ready to go
in July for the start of the AMA Pro
Motocross Championship."
POINTING OUT
The Geico Honda Team announced
before Sunday's race that Jeremy Mar-
tin would not be suiting up, nor will he
for the rest of the 250SX East series,
which came as a surprise after he
finished third Wednesday. According
to the team, Martin is close to "point-
ing out" of the 250SX class in general.
The team said that Martin has reached
the AMA's eligibility limit of points in
the 250SX class, and any additional
points scored would force him into the
450 class for 2021. As there aren't any
openings in 450 factory teams in 2021,
and Geico Honda doesn't campaign
the 450SX class, Martin and his team
are seeking an additional year in the
250 class to improve his performance
Briefly...
The conditions at the last three
Salt Lake City Supercross rounds
have been surprisingly diverse
with the first round run in hot, dry
and dusty conditions, the second
in more normal Supercross
conditions, and the third in cool,
wet and muddy conditions.
But Eli Tomac (3) has shown
he can adapt by winning two
of the three races and getting
second in the other. His seventh
win of the 2020 championship
came at the most recent round
Sunday after a thrilling back-and-
forth battle among a seemingly
endless stream of lappers with
Wednesday winner Cooper Webb.
"That was a friggin' sweet race,"
Tomac said. "Really fun."
most likely explains his recent fading
to fifth Wednesday and slide to 10th
place Sunday, where he got lapped
by Tomac, not once but twice!
"I've been having breathing issues
for a few months now," he admitted
on Instagram after Wednesday's race.
"I got really sick in November-Decem-
ber that attacked the respiratory side
of my body really bad. It has been
going on for a long time and I am not
able to get rid of it. I have developed
a mild asthma that I was unaware of
before, but I am not sure if that is the
actual issue to be honest."
